Bunker Spreckles - The Prince??

Taschen, the "world's coolest publishing house" recently released a book about Adolph "Bunker" Spreckels III, the one time surf champ and errant stepson of Clark Gable. The book, Surfing's Divine Prince of Decadence was authored by TR Strecyk and has a slate of photos by surf veteran Art Brewer (GREAT PHOTOS!). Strecyk who co-wrote the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys was a close friend of Spreckels and one of the first on the California skate and surf scene. Stecyk's glossy book is a decadent document that records the short and privileged life of one of the first "REAL" socialite. The kids today could learn a thing or two from this guy.

Born in 1949, the great grandson of a Germany-born sugar baron, railway tycoon and publisher, Claus Spreckels - grew up in the lap of luxury. When he was five, the world's most famous man became his stepfather. Clark Gable schooled him in the art of hunting and revealed the illusory insanity of the image factory to his young charge. Following Gable's death in 1960, he would use the star's Oscar as a doorstop. Need we say more-GET THE BOOK!

It's only a matter of time before some Hollywood asshole does a biopic and ruins this guys life story. I feel some of the beauty and cool factor of Bunker, after his death is that not too many people know about him. WAIT...... check this out BUNKER 77 We don't know if it's a Hollywood asshole but the trailer looks somewhat indie. Which is good.

What better person to do "Our First Entry" on. Being a pretty dope surfer :) and a man who enjoys the "Good' life we all in some way shape or form idolize people like Bunker. A young adult who truly lived his life by the Latin phrase "Carpe Diem".

We hope you enjoyed our first entry and yes it was short but we have a lot more cool shit to write about. So check back for more.
